BARRE, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont prosecutor wants an apology from the state Bar Association for recent comments at a training session telling female attorneys how they should dress in court.
Deputy State’s Attorney Ashley Hill says the comments about attire came from multiple speakers at the Vermont Bar Association Trial Academy on July 13. Hill says one of the speakers told women not to wear “high heels” in court and another said male attorneys should ask their wives’ opinions on picking out a tie.
Hill says attorneys are always expected to dress professionally, but says the comments crossed a line.
Vermont officials say there is no official dress code for attorneys, though some judges may enforce one for decorum.
The Vermont Bar Association’s board says they will discuss Hill’s concerns Thursday.
