Ivanka Trump is shutting down her eponymous fashion brand, the first daughter and senior adviser to President Donald Trump announced Tuesday.
“When we first started this brand, no one could have predicted the success that we would achieve,” Ms. Trump said in a statement.
“After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners,” she said.
Abigail Klem, company president since March 2017, said she was “incredibly proud” of the brand.
“Our platform has become an indispensable resource for our loyal community of women,” she said in a statement. “We’ve seen strong sales since the brand’s inception, which continued through this year with the successful launch of our rapidly growing e-commerce business.”
The company, which launched in 2007, had already been operating under certain restrictions put in place by Ms. Trump in order to mitigate potential violations of ethics laws while she served in the White House. According to The Wall Street Journal, the first daughter had been contemplating the move in recent months after she grew frustrated by the restrictions.
