Rep. Blake Farenthold’s office said Wednesday that he’s waiting to repay the taxpayer funds he used to settle a sexual harassment suit to see if there are any changes to the Congressional Accountability Act, a local NBC News affiliate reported.
Mr. Farenthold, Texas Republican, settled a suit for $84,000 with a former aide who accused him of sexually harassing her in 2014. When the allegations came to light late last year, and it was discovered the suit was paid with taxpayer funds, Mr. Farenthold promised to repay the money.
He has yet to do so, however, and has since decided not to run for re-election this year. He promised to in a television interview on Dec. 4 that he would “hand a check over this week” to House Speaker Paul Ryan, which apparently did not occur.
