OPINION:
Most presidents depart office with some measure of disarray outstanding. President Obama departed with mounting debt, a moribund economy, a bogus Iran settlement and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) mayhem.
Progressives habitually characterize DACA recipients as exemplary residents, valedictorians and heroic soldiers in the American armed forces. Economist John Lott recently observed that while “Dreamers” make up about two percent of Arizona’s population, they make up eight percent of the state’s prisoners.
Immigration authority Mickey Kaus, in The Washington Post, reported that most beneficiaries are not attending school but rather are engaged in low-wage employment. Mr. Kaus opined that many such “Dreamers” were not brought here as children, but crossed the border of their own volition and that a grand total of around 900 of them have joined the military. That means, in percentage terms, that one-tenth of one percent of DACA beneficiaries are in uniform.
Now President Trump must radically amend DACA in a fashion that does not improperly punish innocent people.
