Sen. Richard Blumenthal said Tuesday he did not vote in favor of the continuing resolution because he doubts Republicans will allow a vote on the Dreamers.
“I am skeptical about the promises made on the floor of the Senate by the majority leader,” Mr. Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, said on CNN.
“I’m hoping that my Democratic colleagues, who voted to favor this continuing resolution, are actually right,” he said.
Mr. Blumenthal added that he supported Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer’s actions, even when Mr. Schumer reportedly offered President Trump funding for a border wall, saying the New York Democrat “took the best course” and the “responsible” action that he could.
Democrats held out voting for the continuing resolution last week to try and force a vote on the Dream Act, which would give protections to those brought to the U.S. illegally as children. Ultimately, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle came together on Monday to support a funding bill and end the nearly three-day government shutdown.
