TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa business owners and workers are concerned about the mayor’s proposal to upgrade and expand the city’s metered parking system downtown.
The Tulsa World reports that Mayor G.T. Bynum’s plan would extend metered parking hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It would also add meters on downtown’s east side and create an option to pay through a phone app.
Restaurant and bar workers say extending the metered parking hours will cut into their paychecks. Scott Graves is a bartender at Hodges Bend and says the city should build parking garages instead of charging for street parking.
Boomtown Tees owner JoAnn Frizell says the city should fix issues with the current metered parking system before introducing new components.
