PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A former Portland Public Schools employee sent the district a notice that he intends to sue, claiming the school board investigated him without a public vote.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports former Deputy Superintendent Yousef Awwad claims in the 11-page notice sent on Friday that school board chair Julia Brim-Edwards did not have the authority to initiate the investigation and did so because of a grudge against him.

Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero fired Awwad in November.

The board investigated Awwad’s relationship with an indirect subordinate in August.

Awwad’s claims in the notice that the investigation report cleared him of any wrongdoing, but the district has not made the report public.

Brim-Edwards says Awwad’s notice is “based on a mischaracterization of the facts.”
