FERRISBURGH, Vt. (AP) - Most of the 28 animals seized from a Vermont home due to poor living conditions have been turned over to a local humane society.

Vermont Public Radio reports the animals removed from the Ferrisburgh home in October were placed into the custody of Homeward Bound, Addison County’s humane society. The animals were seized through the civil forfeiture process as a criminal case against the former owners is pending.

The seized animals included dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, a hamster and a bearded dragon.

Many of the animals are expected to be adopted into the homes where they are currently being fostered. Others will be up for adoption after receiving medical care.
