ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) - The Mackinac Bridge has reopened to passenger vehicles but remains closed to high-profile vehicles.
The bridge connecting Michigan’s two peninsulas had been completely shut down for a few hours Sunday morning because of ice falling from cables and towers. That marked the third full closure in a week.
Officials say high winds now are keeping the bridge off-limits to certain vehicles, such as pickup trucks with campers, vehicles pulling boats, and semi-trucks with enclosed trailers.
MLive reports it’s the fourth weather-related closure this year for the bridge that spans the Straits of Mackinac. It has closed 20 times for weather issues since 1995.
