Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Friday the decision of the GOP-led House Intelligence Committee to release classified information was tainted by partisan motivations and hurts the nation.

Mr. Kasich, a former member of Congress who has flirted with running against President Trump in the 2020 GOP primary, said oversight of the intelligence community should be carried out in a “bipartisan manner — not for partisan reasons or political gain.”

“The manner in which this was done was wrong and does a disservice to our country,” he said.

Mr. Kasich said he is concerned about the impact the decision could have on the ongoing Russia investigation being spearheaded by Robert Muller.

“The independent investigation into Russia’s meddling in our election must continue unimpeded by outside forces from either Congress or the president,” he said.
