OPINION:
I take exception to actor Robert DeNiro’s recent statement that under President Trump the United States is suffering from “temporary insanity” (“Robert De Niro tells foreign audience U.S. ’backward’ country suffering from ’temporary insanity,’” Web, Feb. 11). On the same day Mr. DeNiro made this misguided and illogical statement, the Trump administration announced that it had the funds allocated for the wall. This wall will serve as a devastating physical and psychological barrier in shutting down the multi-tiered scourge of illegal immigration and shutting down drug and human trafficking, and it will be an instant national-security asset the day it is built. Because it will last for decades, it will save the subsequent U.S. taxpayers huge sums, making it one of the greatest capital investments in human history. I would argue that it was insane for previous administrations not to have built it.
Moreover, in his recent State of the Union Mr. Trump said, “[O]ur military is no longer undermined by artificial timelines, and we no longer tell our enemies our plans.”
Given that the previous administration is guilty of both artificial timeline setting and essentially telling our enemies our plans, I’d argue to Mr. DeNiro that because of Mr. Trump’s America-first leadership, our country has never been in a saner position.
