BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s hospitals are working hard to limit the spread of flu across the state.
In December, the Vermont Health Department said about 2 percent of all hospital visits were attributed to flu-like symptoms. Now that figure is 7 percent.
Judy Stermer of the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems tells Vermont Public Radio hospitals are posting signs reminding visitors about hand hygiene and about not visiting when sick.
Chief Medical Officer Trey Dobson of the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington says the hospital is asking anyone who has had the flu, or flu-like symptoms, in the previous two weeks not visit. Dobson says the hospital will also restrict visits from people under age 18.
Experts say this is one of the most severe flu seasons in years.
