OPINION:
I applaud the demise of the “conservative” political magazine The Weekly Standard (“Weekly Standard on the brink: ’I don’t expect it to exist’ in 2019, report says,” Web, Dec. 4). The folks who manage the magazine have for years stood in the way of creating better lives and circumstances for all Americans and have been most vocal since President Trump was elected.
The publication has been a trumpet for the elitist left and right, those establishment political poltroons who crave power and seek control over all else. For all of their self-importance and delusional sense of vastly superior intelligence compared to us normal citizens, those at the magazine don’t seem to have the common sense that God gave a billy goat — and are paying the price for their own arrogance by fading into irrelevance. History is littered with self-adoring politicians and publishers who have made the mistake of believing their own press, but the failures continue unabated.
Remember, these are the “conservatives” who have opposed Mr. Trump on a daily basis along with the progressive left, and want to undo everything that the president has attempted to do to make the lives of Americans better and safer. Does anyone else want to know why they would want to make our lives worse? I can understand socialists like Barack Obama who wish to turn America into a new USSR, but why would a man like Bill Kristol, who laughably considers himself to be not only a conservative, but an “intellectual,” want to do this?
While The Weekly Standard assumes room temperature, there are rumors floating around Washington that Mr. Kristol is thinking about a run for the presidency. How brilliant. Mr. Kristol can then do to America what he did to The Weekly Standard. Just what we need.
