TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A paralyzed teenager charged as an adult in another’s slaying has pleaded guilty to a lesser offense and will likely spend a decade in Mississippi prison.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal cites court documents in a Tuesday report as saying then-16-year-old Keithan Griffin was initially charged with first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting of his friend, 19-year-old Daiquarrias Pounds. Griffin withdrew his not-guilty plea last month and pleaded guilty to culpable negligence manslaughter.

Prosecutors recommend the 17-year-old get a 20-year sentence with 10 suspended, followed by five of probation. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges from a 2016 shooting Griffin and Pounds were both accused in that left Griffin paralyzed.
