GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - A longtime county supervisor in the Mississippi Delta has died after a wreck, and a temporary successor will be appointed to serve the rest of his term.
The Greenwood Commonwealth reports that 73-year-old Robert Moore was a member of the Leflore County Board of Supervisors for three decades.
He died Friday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, two days after his vehicle left a road in Leflore County and crashed into a ditch.
When his colleagues met Monday in Greenwood, a large black ribbon had been placed on his chair.
The remaining supervisors will choose someone to fill the rest of Moore’s four-year term, which ends in January 2020. All county supervisor jobs in Mississippi will be on the ballot in November 2019.
