GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a child was injured and 11 people displaced in a fire that ravaged a Southern California home.

Garden Grove Fire Capt. Thanh Nguyen said Monday that a resident woke up to smoke Sunday morning at a single-story house on Vicilia Street and eight adults and three children got out before firefighters arrived.

Authorities say the child was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The damage to the home and its contents was estimated at half a million dollars.

Authorities say it took 30 firefighters more than 30 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Nguyen says no smoke alarms were found, and urged residents to have working smoke detectors in their homes.
