CRAIG, Colo. (AP) - Firefighters say a 3-year-old child has died in a Christmas Eve house fire in the northwestern Colorado town of Craig.
The Craig Daily Press reports the fire broke out on Monday. Craig Fire Rescue Capt. Bill Leonard says firefighters tried repeatedly to enter the house and find the child but were unable to get in.
The child’s name and gender haven’t been released.
Leonard says one emergency responder suffered minor injuries trying to rescue the child. The responder was treated at the scene.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
Because of the fatality, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation will assist in the inquiry.
