BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Maine Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is condemning the partial shutdown of the federal government.
Collins said there was “absolutely no excuse” for the partial shutdown in a statement issued Saturday night.
Collins says she is staying in touch with her colleagues and that congressional leaders from both parties are working with the White House to find a way to end the shutdown. She says she hopes all sides will come together to reach a compromise.
Separately, Maine’s independent U.S. Sen. Angus King on Friday blamed the shutdown on Republican President Donald Trump. King says Congress has worked on a bipartisan basis to craft spending bills that would attract support from both parties, including money for border security.
