HONOLULU (AP) - A Hawaii mixed martial arts fighter accused of assaulting his wife has pleaded not guilty.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 27-year-old Arnold Berdon was arraigned Thursday in state Circuit Court after he was recently indicted on a second-degree assault charge.

Honolulu police arrested Berdon last month after Rachael Ostovich Berdon, also a mixed martial arts fighter, said he repeatedly punched her in the head, face and ribs, fracturing her eye socket.

Ostovich Berdon filed for a temporary restraining order against her husband the day after the attack. She filed for divorce Tuesday.

Berdon remains free after posting $75,000 bail.

His trial is scheduled for February. The felony charge against him is punishable by up to five years in prison.
