WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A suburban New York man has admitted to shooting at police officers and wounding one in the jaw in a shootout last year.
The Journal News reports 19-year-old Frank Valencia, of New Rochelle, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Westchester County Court to two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a police officer and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Prosecutors say two officers checked out a parked car in Yonkers in September 2017. Police say Valencia was in the backseat and another man, Jerry Reyes, had fallen asleep in the front seat.
Police say Reyes was ordered out of the car before Valencia fired at Officer Kayla Maher. Maher was rushed to a hospital with a facial wound.
Valencia faces 24 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on Feb. 8.
