EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut mayor previously accused of harassing a former town employee has now been sued for a crash involving a city-owned car.

The New Haven Register reports that North Branford resident Michael Schuler is seeking $15,000 in his suit against East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr and the city.

Schuler says he sustained permanent injuries in the Jan. 3 crash because of Maturo’s “negligence and carelessness.”

The police report says Maturo failed to yield the right of way. Police say Maturo’s vehicle struck Schuler’s van, causing it to hit a utility pole.

Maturo couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday but the city’s attorney says it’s routine for the city to pay the legal fees of city employees.

East Haven negotiated a $175,000 settlement with the woman who alleges Maturo sexually harassed her.
