As Adrian Peterson got off the Redskins’ team bus Thursday and walked on to the practice field at Joint Base Andrews for an afternoon walkthrough, he was met with the loudest cheer from the service members and fans in attendance.

After the session, the veteran running back signed autographs and posed for pictures, as well.

Peterson hasn’t been with the Redskins long, but it appears he is already one of the more popular figures on the team.

When he takes the field Friday at FedEx Field against the Denver Broncos, he’ll likely receive a similar reaction.

“I’m excited about it,” Peterson said about his upcoming debut with the Redskins. “I feel like it will be a great opportunity to get back out there and to be a part of a great organization. A good offensive, a good defensive team.

“I’m really looking forward to what the season holds.”

At 33 years old, Peterson is out to prove that he is still can be an effective running back in the NFL. Last season, he rushed for 529 yards with 3.4 yards per carry in 10 games with the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals.

Coach Jay Gruden, meanwhile, did not indicate how long he plans to play Peterson.

Asked how much work he’ll need or want against the Broncos, Peterson said, “Whatever they allow me to get.” He added since he missed OTAs and training camp, any work moving forward will be beneficial.

Gruden said he was “anxious” to see Peterson’s debut.

“Obviously, everything has checked out so far,” Gruden said. “He’s been great as far as personality is concerned. Has looked in great shape, strong, physical. We’ll see. I think it’ll translate positively.”
