President Trump tweeted with regretful sarcasm Wednesday about his longtime former lawyer Michael Cohen, who has implicated the president in campaign-finance violations.
“If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!” the president tweeted.
It was the president’s first comment on Cohen, who pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to felonies stemming from hush-money payments to two women who alleged affairs with Mr. Trump.
Cohen said he committed the crimes at the direction of a candidate for office in 2016, a reference to Mr. Trump.
In April, the president called Cohen “a fine person with a wonderful family.”
“Michael is a businessman for his own account/lawyer who I have always liked & respected,” Mr. Trump tweeted at the time.
