WESSON, Miss. (AP) - A boil water notice has been issued for the southern half of the Copiah-Lincoln Community College campus, prompting the shutdown of the Mississippi school.
School spokesperson Natalie Davis tells the Daily Leader classes were cancelled Thursday and will resume Monday. Davis says dorms will reopen Sunday.
Wesson Public Works Director Brad Turner says a communication failure caused a loss of water pressure and the notice. Wesson’s wells and elevated storage tanks communicate over a network. An AT&T phone line was accidentally cut Tuesday, and the tanks couldn’t tell the pumps to send more water.
Turner says water pressure for the school dropped below 20 psi, and the Mississippi State Department of Health mandates a boil water notice at those levels.
The department’s all-clear is needed before the notice is lifted.
