HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) - Animal cruelty investigators in southeastern Michigan are seeking criminal charges against those involved in cutting off part of a dog’s leg.

The Michigan Humane Society said Thursday its investigators seized an adult black Labrador Retriever from the Detroit enclave of Hamtramck. They say a kitchen knife or garden shears likely were used to amputate the dog’s lower right back leg sometime Wednesday.

The dog is receiving medical treatment in Detroit. That includes amputating the rest of the leg.

Humane Society officials say they have a suspect and will send their case to Wayne County prosecutors for review. Animal cruelty is a felony.
