LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Records show authorities discovered unknown pills, USB cables and bottles of vaping liquid in an Arkansas State Hospital patient’s room after he left the facility with a staff member.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that former psychological examiner Michelle Messer faces a misdemeanor charge of aiding an unauthorized departure and a felony charge of furnishing prohibited articles.
Authorities say the 42-year-old left the facility with patient Cory Chapin on March 20 after Messer was questioned about how the patient got the contraband items. Authorities say Messer and Chapin were detained in Nevada less than a week later and taken back to Arkansas.
Messer wasn’t listed on the Pulaski County jail roster as of Monday. Her relationship with Chapin is unclear.
