DOVER, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire authorities investigating two untimely deaths say a man fatally stabbed his girlfriend before hanging himself in the backyard.

Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said the deaths happened at the couple’s home in Dover on Monday morning.

He said a driver called 911 after seeing what appeared to be a dead man in the backyard. Police said they found the body of 40-year-old Daniel Barnes was suspended from a tree.

The home was unlocked. Police found the body of 36-year-old Meghan Thomas in the living room. An autopsy showed she suffered stab wounds to the neck and chest.
