As free agency played out, Redskins tight end Vernon Davis reached out to Kirk Cousins’ once the quarterback’s deal with the Minnesota Vikings became official.
While Davis made it clear he’s excited to reunite with Alex Smith, Davis said he told Cousins that he was going to miss him. Cousins and Davis played two seasons together.
In 2017, Davis had 648 receiving yards and three touchdowns — his most since 2013. Cousins, throwing him the ball, obviously helped play a part in that.
“I think it’s only right for guys to reach out whenever someone leaves,” Davis said. “When you have a guy that’s been around, to me, it really doesn’t matter if he’s been around a long time, if he was a part of your team and you guys battled together, you should always reach out and just kind of wish them luck and send your congratulations and just let them know how much you enjoyed them being around.”
Davis added he was “sure” most of the rest of his teammates did the same.
