NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 38-year-old is accused of chopping at a New Orleans man’s head with a meat cleaver after suspecting he’d been having an affair with his girlfriend.

Kenner police Lt. Brian McGregor tells NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune , Shane Leyhew was found hiding behind an electrical box Aug. 30 near a residence. He faces charges including false imprisonment while armed with a weapon and resisting an officer.

Jefferson Parish court records say Leyhew was sentenced two years of probation May 1 after pleading guilty to two simple burglary counts. The state Probation and Parole department filed a motion to revoke his probation.

Leyhew was held Thursday at the Parish Correctional Center without bond on probation and fugitive charges. An $82,000 bond was set for the Kenner incident.

It’s unclear if Leyhew has an attorney.
