PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Officials say a Rhode Island man has been arrested after his 2-month-old son was admitted to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Coventry police say 28-year-old Anthony Dicicco, has been charged with first-degree child abuse after his arrest Tuesday.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families reported the infant boy was “near death” when taken to the hospital Sunday. Police say the infant’s injuries are consistent with “shaken baby syndrome.”

The child is currently reported in stable condition. Police say he’ll remain hospitalized pending treatment.

The Office of the Child Advocate was notified.

The Providence Journal reports Dicicco was released on bail Wednesday and ordered not to have contact with his son. Dicicco’s lawyer told the judge that Dicicco cooperated with police, wasn’t a flight risk and had no criminal record.
