PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is offering $3 million in matching grants for communities seeking to invest in recreational spaces.
DEM says the grants funded by the $35 million Green Economy Bond approved by voters last year is part of continued efforts to grow the state’s green economy and promote healthier communities.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo says it’s important that the state continues to invest in outdoor spaces. She says the goal is to move swiftly to give money to communities so projects can get underway and completed.
Community recreation grant funding requires a 20 percent community match for development projects and a 50 percent match for acquisitions.
The grant application period is open through Dec. 1.
