ANDOVER, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old student at a prestigious private school in Massachusetts has been struck and killed by a commuter train.

The Essex district attorney’s office says the male student at Phillips Academy in Andover was struck at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boy lived in Andover and was a day student at the school. His name has not been released by authorities because he is a juvenile.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Transit Police say foul play is not suspected.

A Phillips Academy spokeswoman tells The Eagle-Tribune that the school community gathered in the chapel Wednesday to “support one another and let students, faculty and staff know that resources are available to them.”
