KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Western Michigan University is naming residence halls for former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer and two successful businessmen.
The Western Heights residence hall complex will be known as Hall-Archer-Pickard West and Hall-Archer-Pickard East. A ceremony will be held Wednesday at the Kalamazoo campus.
Hall is Ronald Hall Sr., a late auto executive. Pickard is William Pickard, who was among the first blacks to own a McDonald’s franchise. Archer was Detroit mayor and a state Supreme Court justice.
They were fraternity brothers at WMU in the 1960s.
Pickard donated more than $3 million in honor of the naming of the residence halls. He hopes the names on the buildings remind students about the importance of building relationships in college.
