To support and encourage students to study the arts, George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) will host its 12th annual ARTS by George! Saturday at the school’s Fairfax, Virginia, campus. The benefit aims to raise funds for scholarships in visual arts, dance, music, theater, computer game design, film and video studies and arts management.
Broadway star Kelli O’Hara will perform songs from her Great White Way career as part of the event.
“I love combining my concerts with opportunities to work with students because I always end up learning from them just as much!” Miss O’Hara said in a statement provided to The Washington Times.
Students from Mason’s School of Music will even perform alongside Miss O’Hara for one number.
“What makes us an individual in our art will make us stand out in this business,” Miss O’Hara said she often tells youth such as those who will share the stage with her Saturday. “Be yourself. There is only one you.”
The actress’ busy schedule won’t allow her to sightsee in the nation’s capital this weekend, but she says she is fond of the history and culture of the District.
“I love visiting the monuments and various other landmarks to remind myself of what we stand for as a country,” she said.
Information, tickets and sponsorship packages related to the event are available at ArtsbyGeorge.gmu.edu.
