BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. (AP) - Burning Man organizers say they aren’t currently affected by a nearby Nevada wildfire as the counter-culture festival prepares to culminate Saturday night with the burning of a towering effigy.
Burning Man spokesman Jim Graham said the event is proceeding apace.
More than 70,000 people are expected at the art and music celebration in the Black Rock Desert, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Reno.
The lightning-sparked blaze started four nights ago near Nixon.
It briefly hampered the festivities when it temporarily shut down Burning Man’s main travel route.
The 133-square-mile (344-square-kilometer) wildfire is now 10 percent contained.
Though the flames are just miles away from the Burning Man site, firefighters say they don’t expect it to reach the event.
Burning Man ends Monday.
