EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The University of Oregon has agreed to pay a $90,000 settlement to fired Oregon Bach Festival Artistic Director Matthew Halls, on the condition that neither Halls nor the university will make negative comments about the other moving forward.

The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/2x0KMTS ) the two parties reached the settlement earlier this week after Halls was abruptly fired in August.

The agreement, first reported by The New York Times, also specifies that both the university and Halls must give each other a 24-hour notice when they receive press inquiries.

The $90,000 payment to Halls, almost equivalent to one year’s pay from the university to him under his terminated contract, resolves a dispute about how much the university owed him after ending his contract without cause.
