CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Winter is coming early for some mountain areas of western and central Wyoming.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Friday and into Saturday for the Bighorn, Absaroka and Wind River mountains. Up to 16 inches of snow is possible in the higher elevations.

Snow was also expected in parts of Yellowstone National Park, including the Old Faithful area. The National Park Service lowered Yellowstone’s fire danger to moderate because of the snow and rain in recent days.

On Friday, snow forced the Wyoming Department of Transportation to close the Beartooth Pass on U.S. 212 near the Montana border northwest of Cody.
