ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - Another inmate has been charged in connection with a prison riot in Vermont after police say he appears to have been an instigator.
The Caledonian Record reports (https://bit.ly/2wsDVQn ) 42-year-old Corey Jones pleaded not guilty Monday to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, refusing to disperse and injuring a building among others.
Police say Jones and 28-year-old Jonathan Alvarez blocked windows during the riot. Alvarez has pleaded not guilty to a felony and misdemeanor rioter charge.
The Vermont Department of Corrections says up to 20 inmates were involved in the February disturbance at the St. Johnsbury prison.
Inmates were blockaded in their cell block for two hours demanding cigarettes and telephone access before a tactical team resumed control. Damage was estimated at $5,400. No injuries were reported.
Jones’s attorney had no comment.
