HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Police in West Virginia have released the identity of a woman’s dismembered body found in the Guyandotte River.
Huntington Police Chief Joe Ciccarelli tells media outlets Tuesday that the remains were identified as that of 40-year-old Carrie Joe Worrell Wood of Huntington.
A fisherman spotted the woman’s corpse near a boat ramp in the Guyandotte neighborhood on Sept. 23, and more body parts were recovered Sept. 25. Ciccarelli says fingerprints confirmed the identification.
Police have characterized the death as an act of violence. Ciccarelli says the investigation is ongoing.
