OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Omaha’s zoo is helping to renew a program that provides free memberships to low-income families.
The Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium says eligible families have until the end of the month to request one of 1,500 memberships being offered for free.
The Omaha World-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2ieV51a ) the zoo partnered with United Way of the Midlands last year to offer memberships to families of third-graders in metro-area schools with a high rate of free or reduced price lunches.
The program this year has increased the number of available memberships and lowered the threshold of eligibility for families so more can apply. The newspaper reports the program replaced the zoo’s free admission days.
