They are five and six years old, focused on football, and bound by their motto “It’s okay if you try and fail, but it’s not okay if you fail to try.” Now the undefeated DMV Jr. Knights are putting that gridiron grit to work online, raising money to get to the national championship game in Florida.
The team includes players from the District and Maryland who have emerged from their fall season with 10 wins and not a single loss. The team has qualified to complete in the United Youth Football League’s national championship next month, staged in Plant City, Florida the first week of December.
“We are trying to raise money for these 20 young players to help offset travel, lodging and dining cost as we travel to Florida in hopes to compete and be recognized as national champions,” said team “mom” Eboni Brown, who notes that some coaches already have helped pay registration fees for the players whose families are under a financial strain at the moment.
“Every donation regardless of size will be greatly appreciated,” Ms. Brown added.
