NORWALK, Conn. (AP) - Police have charged a Norwalk Transit District employee who they say embezzled more than $24,000 from the service.
Otis Weeks, of Norwalk, was arrested after turning himself in to police Monday. He faces charges of first-degree larceny and 25 counts each of third-degree identity theft and second-degree forgery.
Police say the 39-year-old Weeks, who approved the weekly company payroll as a supervisor, added hours to employees’ pay to create separate checks. Investigators say Weeks then deposited those fraudulent checks into his account.
Officials say Weeks collected more than $24,000 from August 2016 to February 2017.
Authorities say Weeks told police he took checks for medical bills.
Weeks is due in court May 18. His attorney didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
