NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A former Washington Parish fire official has received a suspended sentence after admitting to funneling public funds for personal enrichment.
The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/2puoNxA) 53-year-old Timothy P. Duncan was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty April 24 to 32 counts of forgery and other charges. Duncan was a member of the Board of Commissioners for Fire District Number 6.
The North Shore district attorney’s office says in a news release that state auditors found he used his position to direct nearly $130,000 to himself and family between 2012 and 2015.
The fire board called auditors to investigate in 2015 after learning Duncan misappropriated fire district funds.
A restitution hearing has been set for July 6.
