CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - Relatives of a man who fatally shot a woman who was housesitting for his mother have apologized to the victim’s family, telling them that “drugs overtook his life.”
Timothy Donnelly received an 18-year sentence on Friday.
The former Elks Township resident had faced felony murder and other charges in the 2013 slaying of 54-year-old Kathleen Korbel. But he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in a plea deal with Camden County prosecutors.
Prosecutors have said Donnelly went to his mother’s Gloucester Township home to rob it while she was away and was surprised to find Korbel in the residence. They say he shot her in the head and then stole jewelry, prescription painkillers and other items.
The 49-year-old Donnelly declined to speak at the sentencing.
