ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Officials say they have captured one of two inmates who escaped Sandoval County Detention Center.
The inmates were reported missing on Friday. As of Saturday, Blake McPherson is back in custody. He was held on property crime charges.
Paul Garcia is still on the run. The 25-year-old is involved in a stolen van crash that killed a girl and her mother earlier this year. Garcia had been at the center awaiting a court date.
Officials say the men were able to escape through a hole the detention center’s recreation yard fence and then climbed onto the roof. The pair ditched their orange jumpsuits at a nearby construction site. Officials found a trail of footprints that led to the Rio Grande.
