JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A prison guard at a privately-run facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi, has been arrested as part of a heroin investigation.
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director John Dowdy says agents arrested 37-year-old Cynthia D. Smith, of Clarksdale at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility, which is operated by California-based Corrections Corporation of America.
Dowdy says a search of Smith’s home found 12 ounces of black tar heroin, two ounces of pharmaceutical-grade marijuana and a significant amount of cash. In a news release, he says Smith faces charges of possession of heroin and marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to possess heroin.
She’s being held at the Coahoma County jail on a $150,000 bond. It was unknown if she has an attorney who can speak on her behalf.
