Wyoming suspect arrested in fatal beating of 2-year-old boy

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming man has been arrested by police on suspicion of being involved in the death of a 2-year-old boy.

KTWO-AM reports (https://bit.ly/2qwcB4g ) John Barrett had been arrested last week. Cheyenne Police spokesman Kevin Malatesta says Barrett has been charged with child abuse and could face additional charges.

Investigators say Barrett had been left in charge of the boy by his mother, Cynthia Clark. Police had been called to check out the boy’s injuries May 22 at a nearby Wyoming hospital. He was then rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado with extensive bruising to his head, back, buttocks, legs and arms. He died the next day.

Malatesta says the investigation is ongoing.
