NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Portions of central and southern Oklahoma are getting an early taste of summer as temperatures soar to the mid and upper 90s.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Saturday for 14 counties including the cities of Stillwater, Oklahoma City, Duncan and Ardmore.
Forecasters say the advisory will be in effect between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, when temperatures will rise as high as 99 degrees. The summer-like temperatures and high humidity levels will push heat indices in the area to between 103 and 109 degrees.
Officials say the heat and humidity will combine to create the possibility of heat-related illnesses for those who work or spend time outside. Forecasters say the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas.
