GREECE, N.Y. (AP) - Waterfront property owners along Lake Ontario’s New York shoreline are bracing for more flooding as high winds return to the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a lakeshore flood warning effective until 2 a.m. Friday for a 90-mile stretch of shoreline from where the Niagara River flows into the lake to the Rochester area. Forecasters say winds gusting to 30 mph Thursday afternoon and evening will produce high waves that could cause flooding in some areas.
Lakeside residents and business owners have been dealing with high water levels and flooding for several weeks, placing tens of thousands of sandbags around homes and buildings.
Some of the hardest hit areas are in the Rochester-area towns of Webster, Irondequoit, Greece and Parma.
In Greece, flooding has closed stretches of Edgemere Drive near the shoreline.
