IONE, Calif. (AP) - Four Northern California correctional officers are recovering after officials say one was stabbed repeatedly by a reputed white supremacist prisoner.

Officials say 28-year-old Brian Jones attacked the first Mule Creek State Prison guard Sunday, punching him in the face and stabbing him multiple times in the back and head with an inmate-made weapon.

Jones is serving a life sentence from Sacramento County for the slaying of a black man in 2012. Trial testimony shows he has racist tattoos and once belonged to a white supremacist gang.

Officials said they are prohibited from providing the race of the officer who was attacked. He was treated and released from a hospital after receiving stitches for a cut under his eye.

Three other officers were treated for minor injuries.
